from Trans-Formations live - a Brilliant and Dark remix album (2012), released September 1, 2016
By Eleanor Clare (music and voice) and Kam Wan (projection 'Winter Moon').
“The suggestion of a journey, magical and mystical, at times painful: the need to connect to something constant. Between darkness & twilight is where this work belongs: a sight just half seen. Visions appear transiently in the space between sleep & waking, the unconscious and conscious. The moon as a motif became increasingly symbolic because of its association with the feminine and its constant transformation from dark to light. As the force that regulates the tides, it could be seen as a guide. Throughout the development of this piece, I held on to the reassuring idea that there is an element within that is still: that there is something (albeit elusive) which resides through the process of change, dispersion, disintegration and regeneration. In this sense, these ideas could be said to connect to the process of the remix. This visual performance has been configured specifically for this venue and event in collaboration with Kam Wan. The remix piece has previously been performed for Prøverommet at Chagall in Bergen (September 2012), and is in ongoing development for a site specific work located at a 19th Century folly overlooking the sea in Bergen, to be completed in 2013.” – Eleanor Clare

“For me, the Moon offers endless fascination. Never static in its phase or position in the sky, it is the epitome of transient beauty.

She is time. She is a mirror.
She is timeless. She is a hole.

In taking the Moon's image, I am not attempting to capture its beauty but rather to acknowledge its own particular temporality and rhythm. The Moon is a beacon in a way that the Sun is not. We may stare full face to the Moon but, apparently, we risk madness. My wider practice concerns Nature and physical processes. The body in space and how it endures duration is a central interest. Through drawing, I always leave an open invitation for processes and forces external to me to join in the exercise in many different capacities. Thus change, spontaneity, chance, decay and solidification are perennial bedfellows.” – Kam Wan
