Trans-Formations live - a Brilliant and Dark remix album (2012),
released September 1, 2016
By Daona - David Solomons and Fiona MacAlister. Fiona McAlister was deeply moved by the remix passages depicting loss, feeling resonance with her own losses thus far in life. In particular, the haunting lyric ‘will the longing for one you love, bring you back here’ has inspired her, working together with David Solomons, to create a different interpretation of this loss - a sailor lost at sea, his bereft lover hollowed by grief, faces the waves and sings of her pain. Using the phrase as a springboard, the piece - Seasong – aims to express that sense of profound loss using a combination of different techniques and musical experiences.
The piece, featuring vocal arrangements, prepared guitar and tape, will be performed live as a mixture of structure and improvisation.
Fiona McAlister and David Solomons both live in North London. Having passed her childhood and early adulthood in constant song, Fiona has spent the last few years studying jazz vocals, learning with talented vocalists such as Laura Zakian and Frances Lynch. She is currently in the Jazz Choir at Morley College, a regular part of The Ellen Southern Ensemble and a frequent performer on the London open mic jazz scene. David’s creative history has included music, film and the written word: playing guitar with Bert Jansch and Eddie Provost of AMM, exhibiting at the Raindance Film Festival and contributing regular music reviews to the long-standing music site ‘Freq’.
